Genesis 32 Lyrics & Tabs by Hazakim
Genesis 32
guitar chords lyrics
Baruch Ata Adonai, Eloheinu melech ha'olam
(Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the Universe)
Ki-ra'iti Elohim panim el panim vatinatsel nafshi
(For I have seen God face to Face and yet my life is spared)
In arrogance Jacob cheated Esau of his inheritance
And was on the run from his older brother ever since
Forced to run and hide
He sent his family and team across the stream while camping on the other side
Under a starry sky, tension hung in the air
Jacob was in despair as he uttered a prayer
Within his heart feeling a range of emotions
He looked up and out of the darkness saw a stranger approach him
What Jacob was facing was an amazing visitation
But fear for his life lead to a brazen altercation
At first he thought it was Esau, until he got close by
What Jacob was facing was an amazing visitation
But fear for his life lead to a brazen altercation
At first he thought it was Esau, until he got close by
And realized it was a messenger from on high
The shoving match wouldn't pass, in fact it lasted long
Kept dragging on until the crack of dawn
As Jacob held on with a grip, the stranger tapped on his hip
And knocked it out of socket, causing him to walk with a limp
Aching and bruised with a leg that was moved, seized with anger
Dazed and confused, Jacob refused to release the stranger
The man said, "It's daybreak, let me go"
Jacob responded, "Unless you bless me, no"
As Jacob stood still on the plains of Peniel
The stranger revealed the change of his name to Israel
But Jacob had a question right before the stranger left him
"What is your name?" The man said, "Why do you ask?"And then He blessed him
It was a time of testing, yet it left an impression
And it was more than the fact that Jacob received his blessing
Frightened and scared, at this time he declared
"I have seen the living God yet my life has been spared"

Translation of final Hebrew singingLord God of Israel, who is like you oh God,
in heaven above or in the earth below?
But will you truly dwell on earth?
The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you!
