R.E.S. - Cardiacs
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tabbed by: The Mop
From the albums "A Little Man And A House And The Whole World Window" and
"Special Garage Concerts Vol 2"

One of the greatest Cardiacs tunes of all time...took me forever to work
it out!

Main Riff

F G# F
e--------------------------------|
B-6-------4-------4-------(6)----|
G---5---5---5---5---5---5-(5)----|
D-----7-------6-------6----------|
A--------------------------------|
E--------------------------------|

It is possible to play the keyboard lines if you sweep pick this,
but it's a bit of a pain (for me at least) so I tend to play the bassline
instead, hehe :P

e-------------------|
B-------------------|
G---------------10--|
D----7-6--------10--|
A--8-----6---6--(8)-|
E----------8--------|

The verse alternates with this bassline and the one above;
e--------------1---|
B--------------1---|
G------------------|
D------------------|
A------------------|
E--1-2-3-4-3-2(1)--|

A stitch in time saves nine in time
To stay alive 'cause we are so divine
In my mind I can't stop dying
I wish there was no stopping me now
In the hope I'm to grow old
I've been told to keep my head down to the ground
It's like standing in the playground
Looking at the ground trying not to notice
All the kids around

Chorus
D (C) F A#
PM-------------|
e--222-2--------------------------|
B--333-3--------------1---1-3---3----|
G--222-2--------2-2-2-3-3-3----|
D--000-0----------------3-----3------|
A------------------------------------|
E------------------------------------|

The will to be kind is mine but
That's the way we all go
The people subsiding are always advising that
That's the way we all go

Verse

Calling is craving is letting the rain in
It peers at me and is it understanding?
Ha!
Holding me with all its derelict charm
Rushing round me and slipping but never falling
Down!
"Give me something I don't need"
My friend cried till his face bled really really red
It stays here all my life, it fears towards me

Chorus

The will to be kind is mine but
That's the way we all go
The higher the chances the higher the climb, but
That's the way we all go

Then it descends into the long instrumental section...

Is everybody happy?

Then follows the keyboard solo, on the Garage Concert vesion this is slowed down
and is much easier to play on guitar, however I tend to play the regular guitar
part when playing along with the original (as Tim does on the CD).

Keyboard line

Then there's another keyboard solo then...

B--------1---1-------1---1--|

(this section is played clean)

B--10---10-13---13-10---10-13------|
G-----10------12------10-------12--|
D----------------------------------|
A----------------------------------|
E----------------------------------|

Then it descends into chaos (or "more chaos") before the guitar solo,
the time signatures here are pretty tricky...
e--------------------------------------------------|
B--------------------------------------------------|
G--10--9-7-6------9-8---6--5--5--------------------|
D------------9-10-----7--------7-7-6--7-6-8--7-8---|

B-----------5-7-5-4---------------------------------|
G--6-6--6--6-------6--6/9----/21--------------------|
D---------------------------------------------------|

Then after the solo comes this...
e-----------------------------------------------------|
B-----------------------------------------------------|
G-----------------------------------------------------|
D--10--12---------------------14-15----1718--16--18---|
A----10--12-11-12-10-1010-10-------1514---------------|

B--5-555-555-555-555-555-55-2-4-----------4-1-3-------4------0-------|
G--------------------------------------------------------------------|
D--------------------------------------------------------------------|
A--------------------------------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------------------------2----|

After which this riff is played again;
Gtr1
e--------------------|
B--10-10-10-10-------|
G--------------9-9---|
D--------------------|
A--------------------|
E--------------------|
Gtr2
e------11-12---------|
B--14-------14-12----|
G----14--------------|
D--------------------|
A--------------------|
E--------------------|

And then comes the main riff with all the pauses...the bassline is shown.
The pattern below repeats itself.

e----------------|----------|---------------------|------|------------|
B----------------|----------|---------------------|------|------------|
G----------------|----------|---------------------|------|------------|
D----7-6---------|----7-6---|----7---7-6----------|----7-|----7-6-----|
A--8-----6---6-8-|--8-----6-|--8---8-----6---6-8--|--8---|--8-----6---|
E----------8-----|----------|--------------8------|------|------------|

Then the chorus kicks in again, this time with full chords.

D C F A# D C F A#

D C F A# D C F A#
e--------10-8-----8------------------------7---------|
B-----10------8------10-----------7----6-8-----------|
G---7-----------9-------9-10-9-7-----7-------10-9-7--|
D----------------------------------------------------|
A----------------------------------------------------|
E----------------------------------------------------|

But I'm lost not for words or for kindness or sympathy
That's the way we all go
There's thousands of people just like me all over
But that's the way we all go

Then the chorus returns to the key used in the Little Man track

B A D G
e--2----0---2---3--------|
B--4----2---3---3--2-0---|
G--4----2---2---0--------|
D--4----2---0---0--------|
A--2----0-------x--------|
E---------------3--------|

That's the way we all go

Then there's the last part on the original and Garage versions, but not on the
Little Man album...

Em
My hope day is forever coming closer
D C A
My hopes and fears are uncommon and it's he
Bm Em
Who asks for me now

So I'll stay here until it's saving my life
D C Bm
Sing la la la la la la la
C
Outside!

e---------------------|
B--7--------7--7-8-9--|
G----7----7-----------|
D------7--------------|
A---------------------|
E---------------------|

There it is...hope you enjoy it! :D
