Ghost Story Chords & Lyrics by Sting
Ghost Story
guitar chords lyrics
I don't actually know if this is the original key, but it's easy to play,
even after the key change. It's not really a guitar song but what I tried
to illustrate in the chords is that I think it should start out simple and
get more complex as it goes on. You can elaborate on that by switching from
slow, even strums to faster and more syncopated strums. I feel like it
should break open at "another winter" and again at "the moon's a fingernail."
I also put in four chords at the end that I think make a nice ending. Comments welcome please.
C
I watch the Western sky
C
The sun is sinking
G
The geese are flying South
F
It sets me thinking
F
I did not miss you much
G
I did not suffer
F
What did not kill me
C
Just made me tougher
C F
I feel the winter come
C
His icy sinews
G
Now in the fire light
F G
The case continues
F
Another night in court
G
The same old trial
F G
The same old questions asked
C
The same denial
C F
The shadows close me round
C
Like jury members
G
I look for answers in
F G
The fire's embers
F
Why was I missing then
G
That whole December
F G
I give my usual lie:
C
I don't remember
Am
Another winter comes
G
His icy fingers creep
F
Into these bones of mine
C
These memories never sleep
G F
And all these differences
G
A cloak I borrow
F
We kept our distances
F G C
Why should it follow I must have loved you
Am G
What is the force that binds the stars
F C G
I wore this mask to hide my scars
Am G
What is the power that pulls the tide
F C G
I never could find a place to hide
Am G
What moves the Earth around the sun
F C G F
What could I do but run and run and run
F
Afraid to love, afraid to fail
F G
A mast without a sail
D A D
The moon's a fingernail and slowly sinking
A G A
Another day begins and now I'm thinking
G A
That this indifference was my invention
G A7
When everything I did sought your attention
D A
You were my compass star
D
You were my measure
A
You were a pirate's map
G A
A buried treasure
G
If this was all correct
A
The last thing I'd expect
G
The prosecution rests
A7 D
It's time that I confess: I must have loved you
